Use Get Started at UD to sign-up for eduroam Wi-Fi

  • If you are a student or employee connecting a new phone, tablet, or computer to UD's Wi-Fi network, use the Get Started at UD Wi-Fi network (SSID) to connect your device to eduroam. (Learn more about eduroam.)
  • Visiting the campus? Register to use the UDel_Guest Wi-Fi network.
  • Have a gaming console, Amazon Echo, wireless printer, or other browserless device? Register it for the UD Devices Wi-Fi network.
Off-campus? Use these instructions to set up access to eduroam.

Important message for Fall 2024 Semester

Some systems, including Windows systems with a Snapdragon chip, and Mac and IOS devices with  may have problems connecting to eduroam. If your Windows or Mac system cannot connect to eduroam using the instructions on this page, try these special instructions for:


General directions

Students and employees: Follow these steps the first time you connect a device to eduroam, the Wi-Fi used at UD.

  1. On one of UD's campuses, go to the Wi-Fi settings on your Internet-capable device (phone, tablet, computer) and select Get Started at UD.
  2. Open a web browser, and type this URL into your device's web browser: wifi.udel.edu
  • The Secure UD Wi-Fi screen opens. If your device's operating system was not detected correctly, use the menu to Select an Alternate OS.

JoinNow window

  1. Tap JoinNow.
    • Some devices will require you to download the software from their proprietary store (e.g., amazon, Google Play, etc.). If so, the Secure UD Wi-Fi page will have that information on the screen, usually just above the JoinNow button. (Some operating systems will display an Install button instead of a JoinNow button.)
    • If the Secure W2 software does not open automatically, look for it in your device's downloads area or click Run.
  2. Click Sign In, and provide your UD log-in credentials. 
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to register and configure your Internet-capable device for use with the eduroam Wi-Fi network at UD.

Eduroam Acceptable Use Policy

By using eduroam, you agree to abide by the the eduroam Acceptable Use Policy.

When you connect to eduroam outside of the United States, your encrypted and secured data may be transferred to third parties, including countries and jurisdictions around the world, in order to provide eduroam services.


If you need more specific instructions, use the information below to register your device.

Connecting on Windows

If your system won't connect to eduroam using the instructions below, try the Windows systems eduroam instructions (alternative).

Connecting on Mac

If your system won't connect to eduroam using the instructions below, try the Mac OS systems eduroam instructions (alternative 1) or (alternative 2)

Connecting on iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch

  1. If you are a current eduroam user, first you must make your device forget eduroam by following the instructions on this help page.
  2. On one of UD's campuses, choose Get Started at UD from your iOS device's Wi-Fi menu.
  3. Open a web browser, and type this URL into your computer's web browser: wifi.udel.edu
    • The Secure UD Wi-Fi screen opens. If your device's operating system was not detected correctly, use the menu to Select an Alternate OS.
  4. Tap Sign In.
  5. The program will open a browser to CAS (Central Authentication Service). Enter your UDelNet ID, password, and your 2FA code to log in*. Otherwise, click Next. If prompted, update your keychain password.

* If ios tries to automatically fill in your password, tap Choose My Own Password.

  1. Tap JoinNow.
  2. Tap Allow to download the configuration profile. Tap Close.
  3. Go to Settings, tap Profile Downloaded, and tap Install, type your ios passcode, and then tap the Install button on the next screen. Tap Install again.
  4. When you see the Profile Installed screen, tap Done. Check your Wi-Fi settings to verify that you are connected to eduroam.

Connecting on Android Devices

  1. If you are a current eduroam user, first you must make your device forget eduroam.
    • Go to Settings.
    • On Android 8 devices, choose Connections, then select Wi-Fi. On Android 7 devices, just select Wi-Fi from Settings.
    • Select eduroam.
    • Tap Forget.
  2. On one of UD's campuses, go to the Wi-Fi settings on your Android device and select the Get Started at UD Wi-Fi network.
  3. Open a web browser, and type this URL into your device's web browser: wifi.udel.edu
    • If your device's operating system was not detected correctly, use the menu to Select an Alternate OS.
  4. Make sure that Google Play Store (App) is selected under Step 1. Then tap Download to install the SecureW2 JoinNow app.
  5. After the app has been downloaded and installed from the Google Play Store, tap the OPEN button.
    • Your device may then display the Secure UD Wi-Fi web page again. If it does, in the Step 2 portion of the web page, tap JoinNow.
  6. You will see a message that the program is Downloading configuration.... After the configuration is downloaded, type your UDelNet ID, your UD password, and your 2FA code. Note that you must type your password a second time to verify. Tap Continue.
  7. You may see a message that the device is being configured. When the configuration is complete you'll see a screen like the one shown below. Tap Done.
  8. Check your Wi-Fi settings to verify that you are connected to eduroam.

Connecting on Chrome OS Devices

  1. If you are a current eduroam user, first you must make your device forget eduroam by following the instructions on this help page.
  2. On one of UD's campuses, go to Network select Wi-Fi, and select the Get Started at UD network.
  3. Type this URL into your Chrome browser: wifi.udel.edu
    • If your device's operating system was not detected correctly, use the menu to Select an Alternate OS.
  4. Click Install. Doing so will take you to the Chrome Web Store so that you can install the JoinNow MultiOS Extension for Chromebook.*
*Important: If the Chrome Web Store does not open, and the screen shows this message: "Chrome extension installed successfully", click Sign In, and skip to Step 6.
  1. At the Chrome Web Store page for JoinNow, click + ADD TO CHROME. In the Add "JoinNow MultiOS"? dialogue box, click Add extension.
  2. The program will open a browser to CAS (Central Authentication Service). Enter your UDelNet ID, password, and your 2FA code.. Click Log in. Otherwise, click Next.
  3. Type your UD email address (UDelNet ID and @udel.edu) and your password. Click Download to download the ONC configuration file.
  4. The Chrome operating system will ask you where you'd like to save the SecureW2.onc file. Save it in the Downloads folder. (Navigate to the Downloads folder, then click SAVE.)
  5. On the chrome://net-internals tab in the web browser, click Choose File under Import ONC file.
  6. In the Downloads folder, highlight the SecureW2.onc file, and click OPEN to finish installing the file:
  7. Go to your Chrome device's Network settings. Click the Wi-Fi icon for eduroam to connect to eduroam.
  8. When you first connect to eduroam, a screen similar to the one below opens. From the Server CA certificate drop down, choose Do not check. Then click Connect.


Connecting on Linux

In a few cases, a distribution of Linux has required that SecureW2 be installed with root privileges acquired by running the sudo command.
Command-line directions
  1. If this computer has been connected to eduroam at UD previously, follow these directions to forget the old configuration before proceeding to step 2.
  2. Connect to the Get Started at UD Wi-Fi network by typing
    nmcli c up id "Get Started at UD"
  3. In a browser window, go to wifi.udel.edu and download the Linux SecureW2 JoinNow client to the directory of your choice.
  4. In the system terminal window, type the following:
chmod 777 /path/to/directory/SecureW2_JoinNow.run

replacing /path/to/directory with the path of the directory in which you stored the downloaded file.

  1. In the system terminal window, type the following:
    sh /path/to/directory/SecureW2_JoinNow.run
    replacing /path/to/directory with the path of the directory in which you stored the downloaded file.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Graphical interface directions
  1. If this computer has been connected to eduroam at UD previously, follow these directions to forget the old configuration before proceeding to step 2.
  2. Use the NetworkManager Applet icon or the Applications Menu to open the Network Connections window. Select Get Started at UD.
  3. Open a web browser and go to wifi.udel.edu. You will see the Secure UD Wi-Fi web page.
  4. Make sure the Select an Alternate OS pulldown says "Linux".
  5. Click the JoinNow button.
  6. You will Joining UD Wi-Fi page, and a dialog box will open asking if you wish to open the SecureW2_JoinNow.run file. Select Save File, then click OK.
  7. Open a system terminal window and navigate to the directory where you saved the SecureW2_JoinNow.run file.
  8. Type the following command:
chmod 777 SecureW2_JoinNow.run
  1. Type the following command:
    sh SecureW2_JoinNow.run
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
