These instructions will allow you to set up eduroam access from off-campus (Other Universities, Travel & Study Abroad, and Other Off-campus Locations).
General directions
Students and employees: Follow these steps the first time you connect a device to eduroam, the Wi-Fi used at UD.
- Connect to a Wi-Fi access point other than eduroam.
- Open a web browser, and type this URL into your device's web browser: wifi.udel.edu
- The Secure UD Wi-Fi screen opens. If your device's operating system was not detected correctly, use the menu to Select an Alternate OS.
- Click JoinNow.
- Some devices will require you to download the software from their proprietary store (e.g., amazon, Google Play, etc.). If so, the Secure UD Wi-Fi page will have that information on the screen, usually just above the JoinNow button. (Some operating systems will display an Install button instead of a JoinNow button.)
- If the Secure W2 software does not open automatically, look for it in your device's downloads area or click Run.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to register and configure your internet-capable device for use with the eduroam Wi-Fi network at UD.
Eduroam Acceptable Use Policy
By using eduroam, you agree to abide by the the eduroam Acceptable Use Policy.
When you connect to eduroam outside of the United States, your encrypted and secured data may be transferred to third parties, including countries and jurisdictions around the world, in order to provide eduroam services.
If you need more specific instructions, use the information below to register your device.
- Connect to a Wi-Fi access point other than eduroam.
- If your device uses or has used eduroam, you must remove eduroam from the device. For instructions on how to remove this network, refer to this help page.
- Open a web browser, and type this URL into your computer's web browser: wifi.udel.edu
- The Secure UD Wi-Fi screen opens. If your device's operating system was not detected correctly, use the menu to Select an Alternate OS.
- Click JoinNow to download the SecureW2 software.
- Most Windows systems will verify that you want to run the file securew2.exe.

Special note for systems running Windows 10 and 11: After you click
Run, your system may appear to hang. Wait until the
SmartScreen can't be reached right now window opens. Choose
Run. Choose
Yes if prompted to allow the
SecureW2 Join Now app to run. Click
Next. The system may again appear to hang while the program opens a browser to the CAS (Central Authentication Service) window. Enter your UDelNet ID, password, and your 2FA code. After logging in, click
Next from the secureW2 program.
If you see a message that says "Error: An error occurred: ServletException...", close all programs, and start from step 3.
- If the User Account Control window opens, click Yes to allow the app to make changes to your device.
- Click Next.
- The program will open a browser to CAS (Central Authentication Service). Enter your UDelNet ID, password, and your 2FA code.
- After logging in, click Next (in the SecureW2 program window).
- When the installation is complete, click Done. Check your Wi-Fi settings to verify that you are connected to eduroam.*
*Important: if you set up eduroam access at a location that does not use eduroam Wi-Fi, you cannot verify access until you visit or return to an institution that uses eduroam.
- Connect to a Wi-Fi access point other than eduroam.
- If your device uses or has used eduroam, you must remove eduroam from the device. Follow the instructions on this help page.
- Open a web browser, and type this URL into your computer's web browser: wifi.udel.edu
- The Secure UD Wi-Fi screen opens. If your device's operating system was not detected correctly, use the menu to Select an Alternate OS.
- Click JoinNow.
- If the Secure W2 software does not open automatically, look for it in your computer's Downloads folder and double-click the icon for SecureW2_JoinNow.dmg.
- Once the SecureW2_JoinNow folder is open, click the blue UD Wi-Fi icon to continue the installation.
- If you see the standard macOS warning "SecureW2_JoinNow" is an application downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?, click Open.
- The program will open a browser to CAS (Central Authentication Service). Enter your UDelNet ID, password, and your 2FA code. After logging in, click Next (in the SecureW2 program window). In the next pop-up, verify that you will allow SecureW2_JoinNow to make changes to your computer. Use your Apple macOS User Name and Password.
- If the "eapolclient wants to access key "SecureW2 JoinNow Private Key" in your keychain" message opens, choose Always Allow.
- When the installation is complete, click Done. Check your Wi-Fi settings to verify that you are connected to eduroam.*
*Important: if you set up eduroam access at a location that does not use eduroam Wi-Fi, you cannot verify access until you visit or return to an institution that uses eduroam.

Connecting on iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch
- Connect to a Wi-Fi access point other than eduroam.
- If your device uses or has used eduroam, you must remove eduroam from the device. Follow the instructions on this help page.
- Open a web browser, and type this URL into your computer's web browser: wifi.udel.edu
- The Secure UD Wi-Fi screen opens. If your device's operating system was not detected correctly, use the menu to Select an Alternate OS.
- Tap JoinNow.
- The program will open a browser to CAS (Central Authentication Service). Enter your UDelNet ID, password, and your 2FA code. Otherwise, click Next.
- When you see the message shown below, tap Allow to see the configuration profile.
- When you see the verification screen shown below, tap Install.
- Apple iOS will display a warning that this is a new certificate, not previously seen on your iOS device. Tap Install, then tap the Install button on the next screen.
- When you see a screen that says the profile is installed, tap Done. Check your Wi-Fi settings to verify that you are connected to eduroam.
*Important: if you set up eduroam access at a location that does not use eduroam Wi-Fi, you cannot verify access until you visit or return to an institution that uses eduroam.
Connecting on Android Devices
- Connect to a Wi-Fi access point other than eduroam.
- If you are a current eduroam user, you must make your device forget eduroam.
- Go to Settings.
- On Android 8 devices, choose Connections, then select Wi-Fi. On Android 7 devices, just select Wi-Fi from Settings.
- Select eduroam.
- Tap Forget.
- Open a web browser, and type this URL into your device's web browser: wifi.udel.edu
- If your device's operating system was not detected correctly, use the menu to Select an Alternate OS.
- Make sure that Google Play Store (App) is selected under Step 1. Then tap Download to install the SecureW2 JoinNow app.
- After the app has been downloaded and installed from the Google Play Store, tap the OPEN button.
- Your device may then display the Secure UD Wi-Fi web page again. If it does, in the Step 2 portion of the web page, tap JoinNow.
- You will see a message that the program is Downloading configuration.... After the configuration is downloaded, type your UDelNet ID, your UD password, and your 2FA code. Note that you must type your password a second time to verify. Tap Continue.
- You may see a message that the device is being configured. When the configuration is complete you'll see a screen like the one shown below. Tap Done.
- Check your Wi-Fi settings to verify that you are connected to eduroam.*

Connecting on Chrome OS Devices
- If you are a current eduroam user, first you must make your device forget eduroam by following the instructions on this help page.
- Type this URL into your Chrome browser: wifi.udel.edu
- If your device's operating system was not detected correctly, use the menu to Select an Alternate OS.
- Click Install. Doing so will take you to the Chrome Web Store so that you can install the JoinNow MultiOS Extension for Chromebook.*
*Important: If the Chrome Web Store does not open, and the screen shows this message: "Chrome extension installed successfully", click Sign In, and skip to step 5.
- At the Chrome Web Store page for JoinNow, click + ADD TO CHROME. In the Add "JoinNow MultiOS"? dialogue box, click Add extension.
- The program will open a browser to CAS (Central Authentication Service). Enter your UDelNet ID, password, and your 2FA code. Otherwise, click Next.
- Type your UD email address (UDelNet ID and @udel.edu) and your password. Click Download to download the ONC configuration file.
- The Chrome operating system will ask you where you'd like to save the SecureW2.onc file. Save it in the Downloads folder. (Navigate to the Downloads folder, then click SAVE.)
- On the chrome://net-internals tab in the web browser, click Choose File under Import ONC file.
- In the Downloads folder, highlight the SecureW2.onc file, and click OPEN to finish installing the file:
- Go to your Chrome device's Network settings. Click the Wi-Fi icon for eduroam to connect to eduroam. Note: If you are setting up eduroam access from a location that does not use eduroam Wi-Fi, you will not be able to connect to eduroam until you return to an institution that offers eduroam Wi-Fi.
- When you first connect to eduroam, a screen similar to the one below opens. From the Server CA certificate drop down, choose Do not check. Then click Connect.
In a few cases, a distribution of Linux has required that SecureW2 be installed with root privileges acquired by running the sudo command.
Command-line directions
- Connect to a Wi-Fi access point other than eduroam.
- If this computer has been connected to eduroam at UD previously, follow these directions to forget the old configuration before proceeding to step 3.
- In a browser window, go to wifi.udel.edu and download the Linux SecureW2 JoinNow client to the directory of your choice.
- In the system terminal window, type the following:
chmod 777 /path/to/directory/SecureW2_JoinNow.run
replacing /path/to/directory with the path of the directory in which you stored the downloaded file.
- In the system terminal window, type the following:
sh /path/to/directory/SecureW2_JoinNow.run
replacing /path/to/directory with the path of the directory in which you stored the downloaded file.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Graphical interface directions
- Connect to a Wi-Fi access point other than eduroam.
- If this computer has been connected to eduroam at UD previously, follow these directions to forget the old configuration before proceeding to step 3.
- Open a web browser and go to wifi.udel.edu. You will see the Secure UD Wi-Fi web page.
- Make sure the Select an Alternate OS pulldown says "Linux".
- Click the JoinNow button.
- You will Joining UD Wi-Fi page, and a dialog box will open asking if you wish to open the SecureW2_JoinNow.run file. Select Save File, then click OK.
- Open a system terminal window and navigate to the directory where you saved the SecureW2_JoinNow.run file.
- Type the following command:
chmod 777 SecureW2_JoinNow.run
- Type the following command:
sh SecureW2_JoinNow.run
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
