Bugzilla: Create a New Bug Report

  1. From the UD Bugzilla homepage, click on the New link.

  2. The first page is titled First, you must pick a product on which to enter a bug:

Most IT-WD projects are included in the following products:

    • Form Data Processor: UD Form Data Processor (FDP)

    • Servlets: University of Delaware java servlets

    • WebForms: University of Delaware's Web Forms system

If you are not sure which product to choose, then contact the Web Developer for your project or email the Web Resource Group.

  3. The second page creates the bug report. Don't worry about getting all the fields on this form 100% accurate. There are the items that are important for the bug to be processed correctly:

    • Component: Select the abbreviated name of your project

    • Summary: A brief descriptive title for the bug report

Tip: It helps IT-WD to organize bug reports if the Summary begins with the project name.

Example: "Courses Search - server error on textbook link"

    • Description: A more detailed summary, notes, or status of the bug

Tip: The more detailed information provided, the better the response will be.

Example of a poor description: "Nothing on this form works. I can't even log in!"

Example of a good description: "When I login to Performance Appraisals using Internet Explorer 11, I get the error message: Invalid password. This bug is specific to Performance Appraisals with Internet Explorer. I can successfully login to Performance Appraisals with other browsers."

  4. Optional information: Once you are used to writing bugs, you may want to also set Severity, which is the importance of the bug.

The default is normal. You may see IT-WD managers change the severity of bugs if needed. Clients should only raise the severity of the bug in special circumstances. Severity levels include:

    • Blocker: Blocks development and/or testing work

    • Critical: Crashes, loss of data, severe memory leak

    • Major: Major loss of function

    • Normal: Default level

    • Minor: Minor loss of function, or other problem where easy work-around is present

    • Trivial: Cosmetic problem like misspelled words or misaligned text

    • Enhancement: Request for enhancement

  5. When you are ready to submit the bug report, click the Submit Bug button. After you submit a bug report, you will receive an email notification.
