Office 365

Who can use it?

Students, Faculty, Staff

What is it?

Microsoft is changing how it provides Office 365 licenses to the University of Delaware. This change will not impact student, faculty and staff use of Microsoft applications and services (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) but will affect how a portion of our UD community can access these resources.

Most Microsoft users at UD will move seamlessly to an A3 license. This group includes most full and part-time faculty, salaried staff, professional staff, non-exempt staff, and matriculated students. Users should not notice any changes in their use of Office 365 applications. Office apps for mobile devices will continue to function normally.

Some members of our UD community will be transitioned to an A1 license. This license includes groups like non-university employees, adjunct faculty, and visiting scholars. After February 1, 2021, users with an A1 license will no longer be able to download or use Microsoft’s standalone Office 365 applications, and licenses for previously downloaded Office 365 applications will expire within 90 days or by May 2021. However, users will have access to Microsoft’s online suite of applications and services and continued use of Office apps for mobile devices. Users will also retain access to their individual user files.
