University Generative AI Services List

The University has existing contracts for services with Google and Microsoft that explicitly contain data security and privacy agreements. These companies provide free and paid access to generative AI services.

Please use your UD account with approved versions of the software.
Note: This applies to only Copilot or Gemini at the moment, but may change over time as we approve more applications.

As more services become available, this list will be updated to reflect new vendors and their features.

Microsoft Copilot

Features included with your M365 license: (Currently Available - http://copilot.cloud.microsoft)

  • Available through the CoPilot mobile application, and integrated within Windows OS.

  • Performance and Access: Access to GPT-4 and GPT-4 Turbo during non-peak times; may revert to GPT-3.5 during high demand.

  • Image Generation: 15 daily boosts for AI image generation.

  • Integration with Microsoft 365 Apps: No integration with Microsoft 365 apps; manual steps required to transfer output.

  • Advanced Features: Basic functionality; no custom GPT creation.

  • Use Case Scenarios: Suitable for users needing essential AI functionality with a web-based interface.

Paid Version - Copilot for Microsoft 365

To purchase the paid version, please use the Office 365 Additional Licenses form. Note that Copilot for Microsoft 365 is only available to UD faculty and staff.

  • Performance and Access: Priority access to GPT-4 and GPT-4 Turbo, even during peak times.

  • Image Generation: 100 daily boosts for AI image generation with DALL-E 3.

  • Integration with Microsoft 365 Apps: Seamless integration with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook.

  • Advanced Features: Advanced capabilities, including creating custom Co-pilot GPTs with the GPT Builder.

  • Use Case Scenarios: Ideal for users with heavy Microsoft 365 app usage who need seamless integration and advanced features.

  • Pricing: Pricing is prorated, and can be provided with a quote prior to purchase.

Shared Features:

  • AI-Powered Assistance: Both versions offer access to OpenAI's GPT-4 and DALL-E 3, allowing users to generate text and images, upload images, summarize text, perform web searches, code creation, data analysis, and generate summaries or suggestions from files.

Google Gemini

Included with your Google Workspace license: (Currently Available - https://gemini.google.com)

  • Core Capabilities: Strong foundational models, but may have some limitations.

  • Speed: Potentially slower or rate-limited under heavy loads.

  • Advanced Features: Limited access to the most advanced capabilities.

  • Support: General support with possibly longer wait times.

  • Usage Limits: May have stricter limits on usage and task complexity.

  • Integration: Limited integration with Google services.

Limitations:

  • For those under age 18, some features in Google Gemini, such as chat history, will not be available. Other features, such as generating images, may be restricted.

Paid Version - Gemini Education Premium

To purchase the paid version, submit a request via Webforms at the following link: https://udapps.nss.udel.edu/webforms/embtform?wf_id=1115&wf_ty=blank. Under Order Information and Software Title, select "Google - Variable Pricing." Note that the Pro version of Gemini is only available to UD faculty and staff.

  • Core Capabilities: Advanced reasoning, problem-solving, long-form content generation, and coding.

  • Speed: Prioritized for faster responses and efficient resource use.

  • Advanced Features: Inclusion of NotebookLM Plus. Exclusive access to Gemini Advanced with superior performance and the ability to interact with multiple file formats.

  • Support: Dedicated support with faster, personalized assistance.

  • Usage Limits: Higher limits or more flexibility in usage.

  • Integration: Deep integration with Google Workspace and other Google services such as Mail, Docs, and Slides.

Shared Features:

  • AI-Powered Assistance: Natural language understanding, text generation, web search, translation, summarization, question answering, upload and create images, and create code.

NotebookLM (Google)

NotebookLM is an AI-powered research and writing assistant designed to help you understand and synthesize information contained within your own documents. NotebookLM is like having AI for your restricted set of information. 

  • NotebookLM is a Google core service and is part of UD Google workspace. You must be 18 years of age or older to use NotebookLM.

  • You can use NotebookLM from a web browser, or you can download and use the NotebookLM app on your Android or iOS devices. 

  • AI is not trained on any data that is stored in an educational account. Uploads, queries, and responses in your account will not be reviewed by human reviewers.

  • NotebookLM is an evolving service that is subject to change, and includes some beta features that are not guaranteed to work as expected or to stay.

Capabilities:

  • Source Grounding: Analyzes and works exclusively with the documents, notes, and other sources (PDFs, Google Docs, text files, copied text, website URLs) you link or upload to a notebook. 

  • Chat with your notebook: Answers questions based only on the information contained within your sources.

  • Summarization: Creates summaries of individual sources or synthesizes information across multiple sources, including audio summaries.

  • Idea Generation & Brainstorming: Helps generate ideas, outlines, or different content formats (for example, emails, mind maps, scripts, and study guides) derived from your source material.

  • Audio Overview (beta): Creates a podcasts style overview based on your source data, and allows you to interact with the overview.

  • Citations: Automatically provides citations pointing to the specific passages in your sources that support its answers or generated text.

Limitations:

  • NotebookLM is currently available only to University faculty and staff. You also must be 18 years of age or older to use NotebookLM.

  • No General Web Knowledge: Does not access the live internet for general knowledge or real-time information beyond the specific website URLs you provide as sources. Its knowledge is strictly confined to the uploaded documents.

  • Source Dependency: Accuracy and usefulness are heavily dependent on the quality, clarity, and content of the source materials you provide. It cannot know what isn't in the sources.

  • Source Limits and Daily Limits: There is 100 notebook limit (up to 20 million words per notebook), each with up to 50 sources (up to 500K words each). You can have 50 chat queries and 3 audio generations per day. Note: these limits may evolve).

  • No External Actions: NotebookLM cannot perform actions outside the application, like sending emails, browse unrelated websites, or interact with other software.

 

Paid Version - NotebookLM Plus (Google)

This is part of the Gemini paid license (Gemini Education Premium) and includes the same core features as NotebookLM, but also includes:

  • Share “Chat-only” notebooks to viewers (viewers will not have access to your notebook sources). 

  • Advanced chat settings (choose from different conversational styles, adjust length of responses).

  • Notebook usage analytics.

  • 5x more usage vs the standard edition. (currently 500 notebooks and 300 sources per notebook).

Zoom AI Companion

Zoom AI Companion will be available to UD Zoom accounts on January 30th, 2025. 

Zoom AI Companion has two main components: (1) an in-meeting assistant that can generate automatic meeting summaries and allow real-time questions about the ongoing discussion, all aimed at improving meeting comprehension and follow-up actions, and (2) an out-of-meeting panel with a natural language prompt to serve as a virtual personal assistant, including helpful suggested prompts to get you started.  You’ll have access to create smart recordings with highlighted chapters, assistance with whiteboards by generating content based on conversation topics, creating team chat summaries, and more.
