Remote Computer Labs

The University of Delaware offers Remote Computer Labs so that you can remotely use software needed to complete your work. If the Remote Computer Labs do not work for your needs, UD's Virtual Desktop Service is an alternative option.

  • Visit UDeploy for a list of software available through Remote Computer Labs.
  • The software may be used for faculty and student classwork, but may not be used for research.
  • You can access this service through a web browser or by using Microsoft's Remote Desktop app to access the service.
  • Fully matriculated UD students are eligible to use this service.
  • Remote computers are a limited resource, it is important that you log out when you are finished working. Remote computers that are idle for a certain amount of time will automatically log off.
  • Learn more about this service, see our Class Software service page.

Use Remote Computer Labs through a web browser:

  1. To access Remote Computer Labs, go to https://rdweb.wvd.microsoft.com/arm/webclient/index.html.
  2. Log in with your full University of Delaware email address, your UDelNet password (email), and your Microsoft MFA code when prompted.
  • Note: If you've recently signed in with your UD Microsoft account, you may not be prompted for your MFA code.
  1. After connecting, click a computer icon to start and use a virtual computer.
  2. Choose resources on your computer that you want to use in the virtual session, and click Allow.

LocalResources

  1. In the User name field, type your UDelNetID (your UD email address without @udel.edu), and type your UDelNet password. If prompted, provide your MFA code.
  2. Click Submit.
  3. Once your virtual session starts, you will be connected to a Windows 10 computer with the software you need installed. While you are using it, this is “your” computer. You can save files, change settings, etc., without worrying about damaging anything or leaving anything behind for the next user.

Any changes you make or files that you save on the Remote computer will be gone forever when you log out!

To save your work to a cloud service, such as Google Drive, run a web browser from your virtual session, and connect to the service as you would from any PC. Examples:

  1. When you are finished working in the remote computer and have saved your work to another location, log out of the remote computer:
    1. Click the Windows button in the lower left corner.
    2. Click the grey circle / person icon on the left, and then click Sign out

Account icon and Sign Out shows from Windows Start menu

Install and use Remote Computer Labs with the Microsoft Remote Desktop App:

  1. Using a web browser, go to: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-desktop/connect-windows-7-10.
  2. In the Install the Windows Desktop Client section, choose the appropriate download (Windows 64 bit, Windows 32-bit, or Windows ARM64) for your computer's operating system.
    • Most people will need the Windows 64-bit client. If you’re not sure which client to download, contact the IT Support Center.
  3. Run the downloaded installer, and accept the license terms and all installation defaults*.
    • If you have multiple user accounts on your system, you may wish to change the default to "Install for all users of this machine" when prompted.
  4. If the program does not start automatically, start the Remote Desktop program.
