What is it?
A proxy is an intermediary server that acts as a gateway between a user's device and the Internet. When you use a proxy, your Internet traffic is routed through the proxy server before reaching its destination.
For the general campus proxy, all Internet destinations that have not been flagged by the Security Operations team as dangerous or malicious sites can be reached. The general proxy can be used from any network subnet on campus that has not been designated a server subnet. If you are unsure if the segment of the network you’re on is a server subnet, please send an e-mail to askit@udel.edu. For server subnets, the restricted and secure proxy instances are available. If the subnet your server is on cannot access either instance, you should use the ‘Access Request’ form.
For the restricted and secure proxy instances, only select destinations can be reached. If you need clarification on whether a particular destination (ie microsoft.com), can be reached, or if you need access to additional destinations, you should use the ‘Allowed Sites Request’ form. Please see more information about our process to review a new destination request in the ‘How to use it?’ section.

How to use it?
Upon submitting an Access Request or an Allowed Sites Request, your submission will undergo review. Security Operations and GRC will then assess your request and provide their decision. If the request is approved, you will be provided with additional information to configure your device(s) to use the proxy. If your request is not approved, an explanation of why it was denied along with possible alternate solutions and how to appeal will be provided.
