An Introduction to Display Editing with vi Bill Joy (with Mark Horton) This document is the classic written by Bill Joy, the author of vi, and his colleague Mark Horton. Even though it is quite complete, it is still accessible to beginners. Includes a good conceptual overview, too.

Vim Documentation SourceForge project maintained by Dan Sharp This Web site consists of a comprehensive collection of documentation on Vim, the version of vi ported to Microsoft Windows. Vim works well on a Windows system. Since Vim is an enhanced version of vi, much of the documentation is still useful to vi users.
