Connecting to Central UNIX Servers

  • To transfer files between your computer and copland.udel.edu or another central UNIX server, UD requires that you use the secure file transfer protocol (SFTP) or secure copy protocol (SCP).
  • To log in to copland.udel.edu and other central UNIX servers, UD requires that you use a secure shell (SSH) client.

Windows computers

As per UD's recommendations:

  • Windows users wishing to transfer files between their computer and copland.udel.edu or another central UNIX server should install WinSCP.
  • Windows users wishing to perform remote SSH connections will need to install both WinSCP and PuTTY.

For information about WinSCP and PuTTY, use the links below.

Note: IT no longer distributes or supports Secure Shell for SSH connections in Windows. If you currently have Secure Shell installed on your computer, consider using the pages above to help you begin using WinSCP and PuTTY. The IT Secure Shell page will no longer be updated.

Apple Macintosh computers

IT recommends using Fetch to transfer files, and Mac's terminal window with the standard UNIX

ssh command

to log in to a remote UNIX server.
