Who can use it?
Certain Departmental IT units offers access to OpenAI's ChatGPT Business for faculty and staff to support official University activities, including teaching, research, and administrative functions.
What is it?
This service provides enhanced AI capabilities within a secure and compliant framework.
The ChatGPT Business subscription is a distinct service from a personal ChatGPT Plus account. It offers several advantages for institutional use:
- Data Security: The Business subscription has undergone the University's data classification and security review, and is approved for use with up to Level II data. Individual Plus accounts should not be used for any Level II data.
- Enhanced Capabilities: The Business subscription offers higher message limits for GPT-4o and access to other advanced models. It also includes access to Codex, a cloud-based software engineering agent.
- Centralized Billing: Each departmental IT Pro manages the billing, so users only need to provide a University purpose code and approver.
- Collaboration: The Business subscription allows for collaboration with other members of the workspace.

How to use it?
- Separate Subscriptions: The ChatGPT Business subscription is separate from any personal ChatGPT Plus accounts. Users can maintain both, but they will be billed separately.
- Data Migration: Users can merge their chat history from a Plus account to a Business account. However, data cannot be migrated back out if the Business subscription is canceled.
- Compliance: All use of the ChatGPT Business subscription must comply with the University Directive for the Appropriate Use of Generative AI.
- Privacy: Departmental IT does not have access to any team-member prompts, responses, or data. This ensures privacy but also means that individuals are responsible for their own use and compliance.
