Google Groups: Owner settings

Group Owner settings

User settings

As the owner of a Google Group, you have the ability to customize your Group's settings.

If you need to change the name of your Google Group, submit a request to askit@udel.edu.

You can use Google Groups for many kinds of communication. Your group has been configured as an "email list," with an archive of messages on the Web. For information about Google Groups types, go to "The Four Types of Google Groups".

If you need to change the settings for your Google Group, navigate to your group's Group settings page.

  1. Log in to Google Workspace at UDel.edu.
  2. Click the waffle menu from the upper right of the browser window, and select Groups.
Waffle menu and Google Groups icons are indicated
  3. Select My Groups from the Welcome page.
  4. Select the name of the group you want to manage. You will see a menu on the left hand side of the screen listing the different categories of things you can manage for your group:
  • Conversations: approve or reject messages (if you have set up a moderated group).
  • People: add and invite users.
  • About: information about your Google Group.
  • Group Settings: manage most of your Group's settings.
  1. Use the options under Members to manage current members, invite or add members, and manage invitations and requests to join the Group.
  2. Under Group Settings, select Email options. Use this screen to set up the subject line and footers for email messages sent to group members.
  3. Under Group Settings, select People to make decisions about who may participate in the Group.
  4. Under Group Settings - Posting Policies, you can choose options about how members can post messages to the group.
  5. Click Save changes.

Common settings changes

Group settings - General  - Shared labels - Enable shared labels for this group: enabling labels allow you to apply labels to messages. For example, a label called "Addressed" could be created so that other group members could see that a message has been handled by a group member.

Group settings - General  - Allow external members: Enabling this setting allows for people outside of UD to be a member of a Google Group
