Your computer or device may have problems connecting to eduroam. Examples include Windows systems with a Snapdragon processor and Mac systems with an M3 chip. HP systems that have Realtek Wi-Fi cards mail also fail to connect to eduroam. If your system or device cannot connect to eduroam using the standard eduroam instructions, try these alternative eduroam instructions.
HP Windows systems with Realtek Wi-Fi cards (additional steps)
Use these instructions if you have completed the directions to sign-up for eduroam wi-fi, but your HP system fails to connect to eduroam
Step 1: Download Realtek drivers for your HP system
To download the Realtek drivers, you will need to connect your system to a Wi-Fi hotspot, connect to the
UD guest network, or use a computer that is connected to the network to download and save the drivers to a flash drive.
If you are downloading the files from the affected computer:
- Go to HP's laptop driver page. Click Let HP detect your product.
- Once your product has been identified, click the arrow by Driver-Network.
- Click the plus sign to the left of the Realtek RTL8XXX Wireless LAN Drivers.
- Click sp161604.exe, and then choose No thanks, I will download and install manually.
- The file downloads.
If you are using another computer to download the drivers to a flash drive:
- Go to HP's laptop driver page.
- Provide the requested information, and select your system when it appears.
- If prompted, provide your OS and OS version information, and click Submit. Otherwise go to step 4.
- Click the arrow by Driver-Network.
- Click the plus sign to the left of the Realtek RTL8XXX Wireless LAN Drivers.
- Click sp161604.exe, and then choose No thanks, I will download and install manually.
- The file downloads.
Step 2: Replace the Realtek Wi-Fi drivers on your system

Open the Device Manager.
- Press the Windows logo key and the R key simultaneously. This should open a Run Box.
- Type: devmgmt.msc
- Navigate to Network adapters.
- In the Network Adapters section, right-click Realtek 8852BE and choose Uninstall device.
- Locate and run the downloaded driver installer (sp161604.exe).
- Once installed, restart your computer.
- Navigate to wi-fi and choose eduoram.
- Below the username and password input fields, select Connect with Certificate.
If, after step 3, your HP system still will not connect to eduroam, disable mac randomization.
- Open Device Manager
- Press the Windows logo key and the R key simultaneously. This should open a Run Box.
- Type: devmgmt.msc
- Navigate to Network Adapters.
- Double-click Realtek 8852BE.
- Choose Advanced click Mac Randomization, and select Disable. Click OK.
- Open your Wi-Fi settings and select the eduroam network.

Windows Systems eduroam instructions (alternative)
Try these instructions if your Windows system cannot connect to eduroam.
- Select Get Started at UD in your Wi-Fi settings.
- Navigate to wifi.udel.edu from your preferred browser.
- Use the “Select Your Device” drop-down menu to select Non-specific OS.
- Click Sign In.
- Use your UD credentials to log in.
- Select Create. You do not need to provide the "User Description” or “MAC Address”.
- A private key must be created. Type a passphrase for your key, and choose something you can easily remember because you will need to use it for step 12. Click Submit.
- Do not immediately click "Next" when you see the message to “Install your certificate by selecting any one of the following formats”. Instead, choose the P12 format. You can leave this window open while you complete the remaining steps.
- After it finishes downloading to your computer, locate and run the downloaded Wi-Fi certificate file.
- The “Certificate Import Wizard” appears. Verify Current User is selected, and click Next.
- Confirm the file path of the launched certificate. Make sure it is the most recently downloaded certificate that displays your UdelNetID (for example, C:\Users\yourusername\downloads\yourusername@UDel.Edu.p12). Once confirmed, select Next.
- Type the passphrase that you set in step 7. Only the "Include all extended properties" checkbox should have a checkmark. Click Next.
- Choose Automatically select the certificate storage based on the certificate type, and then select Next.
- Click Finish.
- When the Security Warning opens, click Yes. Then click OK.
- Go to your Wi-Fi settings, and select eduroam.
- When the box requesting a username and password opens, do not type your user name and password. Instead, click the link (under the credentials box) to Connect using a certificate. Then click Connect.
Mac Systems eduroam instructions (alternative 1)
Try these instructions if your MacOS system has an M3 chip.
- On your device, navigate to Wi-Fi options, and select Get Started at UD.
- Open the Safari web browser and go to wifi.udel.edu.
- In the "Select Your Device" dropdown menu, choose iPhone/iPad, even though you are using a Mac OS system.
- Select Sign In.
- Proceed past the sign-in screen using your UD login credentials.
- Select Join Now.
- If the pop-up window asks whether you want to allow "cloud.securew2.com” to download a file, choose Allow. Regardless of whether you see this pop-up, navigate to your downloads folder, and open the SecureW2.mobileconfig file.
- The “Profile Installation” notification from the Settings app appears.
- Either double-click the notification, or proceed to Settings and select Profile Downloaded on the left hand side of the settings screen.
If you don't see Profiles, you can find it using your computer's search function in the System Settings.
- Double-click the University of Delaware eduroam_TLS MobileConfig.
- Select Install in the left corner of the settings window, and proceed with the next Install notification.
- When prompted, enter your password for your Mac account. Use the same password you use when you boot up your computer. Then select OK.
- Once the profile is installed, proceed to your Wi-Fi settings and select the eduroam network.
- After eduroam is connected, open Wi-Fi settings, and if "Get Started at UD", "UD Devices", or "UDel_Guest" is listed under Known Networks, select the 3 dots next to each, and deselect Auto Join.

Mac Systems eduroam alternative 2 instructions
Try these instructions the Mac Systems eduroam alternative 1 instructions did not allow your system to connect to eduroam.
- On your device, select Get Started at UD from your device’s Wi-Fi options.
- Open your preferred browser and type in wifi.udel.edu.
- In the “Select Your Device” drop-down menu, choose Non-Specific OS.
- Select Sign In.
- Proceed past the sign-in screen using your UD login credentials.
- Click Create to generate your certificate. You do not need to provide the "User Description" or "MAC Address".
- Set a memorable passphrase for your private key, as you will need it later. Then click Submit.
- You will see options for certificate formats. Do not immediately click "Next". Instead, choose P12 to download the certificate file. You can leave this window open while you complete the remaining steps.
- Locate the certificate within Downloads under “yourusername@udel.edu.p12” and select to open it.
- In the "Add Certificates" window, click Keychain, and select System. Then click Add.
- When prompted, provide your Mac password. Use the password that you use when you boot up your computer.
- In the "Enter the password for yourusername@udel.edu.p12" field, type the passphrase you set in step 7. Click OK.
- You will once again have to provide your Mac password to finish the certificate installation process. Use the password that you use when you boot up your computer.
- Once the certificate is installed, navigate to your Wifi settings, and select Eduroam.
