Notice of Required macOS Updates

What are the required updates?

Apple recently announced a security patch for macOS computers to fix multiple vulnerabilities that endanger your account, data, and system. The security patch can only be installed on computers running the latest incremental version of the macOS. All computers running older versions of the macOS must be updated before the security patch can be applied. Your system will therefore be updated in a two-part process.

The macOS and security updates are scheduled to automatically run on these dates:

October 22: In preparation for the security patch, if your computer is not up to date, UDIT will apply the required operating system update to UD managed systems, which may prevent you from using your computer for 5 to 40 minutes.

November 11: UD will apply the security patch to UD managed systems, which may prevent you from using your computer for 5 to 40 minutes.

You can manually run these updates prior to the dates set for automatic installation so that you will not be inconvenienced by the update process.

The macOS incremental update must be installed before the security update will become available.

What do you need to do?

Option 1: Let your system update automatically

On October 22: When prompted to update your operating system, save your work, and accept the automatic update.

On November 11: When prompted to apply the security update, save your work, and accept the automatic update. Systems that run Catalina macOS version 10.15.7 by November 11 will already have the security patch installed.

Option 2: Manually run the updates

By October 22: manually update your macOS computer to the latest incremental version of the macOS.

By November 11: manually update to install the macOS security patch. Systems that run Catalina macOS version 10.15.7 by November 11 will already have the security patch installed.
