Medicare Enrollment Process

You should apply for Medicare Parts A and B three months prior to turning 65.  As soon as you receive your Medicare ID card that reflects the effective date and ID number, send a copy of the card as well as the completed Retiree Family Status Change form to hrhelp@udel.edu.

The reason for your family status change will be "Medicare Eligibility". This is your opportunity to elect the supplement to Medicare - Highmark Special Medicfill with or without prescription coverage through SilverScript. If you elect to have the prescription coverage with Special Medicfill, that plan is considered a Medicare Part D plan. Medicare will only allow you to have one prescription Part D plan.

If you are covering a spouse who is under 65 on your current plan, he/she can continue with that coverage until he/she becomes Medicare eligible.  If you are covering a dependent child who is under 26 (and not disabled) on your current plan, he/she can continue with that coverage until they turn 26.

There are very tight deadlines for getting our retirees enrolled at the same time as Medicare enrollment, please forward the necessary documents to hrhelp@udel.edu  as soon as you receive them to avoid a delay in enrollment in the supplement.
