Clear your web browser cache

When you access web page, your computer or device can create a local copy of that page on your computer. This local copy can cause issues with a website working as it should. Deleting the cache forces your system to get a fresh copy of the website and often corrects login and other issues. You may have to clear your cache and history when you

  • Submit personal information online (for example, when you make an online purchase)
  • Notice your browser's performance is declining for no apparent reason
  • Know you are still viewing an older version of a page even after refreshing the page
  • Have difficulty submitting work to your instructor in Canvas
  • Experience issues logging in to UDSIS
  • Are working with an upgraded program (for example, UDSIS).
This article has directions to clear the cache in commonly used web browsers.
 

Desktop Browsers

Chrome

  1. Click on the Tools menu (in the upper-right hand corner of the window).
  2. Click History  History.
  3. Select Delete browsing data from the left-hand side.
  4. Set the Time range to All time. Make sure to check-mark both Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files
  5. Click Delete Data. The cache and cookies will be cleared.
  6. Close and restart the browser.

 

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Click on the Tools menu ( in the upper-right hand corner of the window).
  2. Click Settings (on Mac, it may be labeled Preferences).
  3. Click the Privacy & Security on the left-hand side.
  4. When the Browser Privacy window opens, scroll down until you find the the Cookies and Site Data section. Then click Clear Data.
  5. When the Clear browsing data and cookies window opens, check-mark both Cookies and Site Data and Cached Web Content. Then click Clear. The cache and cookies will be cleared.
  6. Close and restart the browser.
 

Microsoft Edge

  1. Click on the Tools menu ( in the upper-right hand corner of the window).
  2. Click Settings (on Mac, it may be labeled Preferences).
  3. Click Privacy, search, and services on the left-hand side menu.
  4. Scroll down to the Delete browsing data section and click on the Choose what to clear button.
  5. Check-mark Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files. Make sure the Time range is set to All time.
  6. Click Clear now
  7. Close and restart the browser.
 

Safari on macOS:

  1. Click on the Safari button on the top-left hand menu bar. Then click Settings
  2. In the Settings menu, select the Privacy tab.
  3. Click on Manage Website Data.
  4. In the window that opens, click Remove All and then click Remove Now. The cache and cookies will be cleared.
  5. Close and restart the browser.
 

Opera

  1. Click the History from the menu bar.
  2. Click Clear Browsing Data.
  3. Make sure the Time range is set to All time.
  4. Check-mark Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files.
  5. Click Delete data.

 

Mobile Browsers

For Safari on iOS:

  1. Go to the Settings app on your device. Scroll down and click the Safari button.
  2. Scroll down and tap Clear History and Website Data.
  3. When the pop-up appears to confirm you want to clear the data, click Clear History and Data. The button you just clicked will turn grey and disappear when the cache and cookies have successfully been cleared.
  4. Close and restart the browser.
 

Chrome on an Android device

  1. On your Android device, open Chrome.
  2. Tap the three vertical dots and tap History.
  3. Tap Clear browsing data
  4. Set the Time range to All time.
  5. Check-mark the Cookies and Site Data and Cached Images and Files boxes.
  6. Tap Clear data.
  7. Restart the web browser.
 

Chrome on an iOS device

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open Chrome.
  2. Tap the three vertical dots and tap History.
  3. Tap Delete Browsing Data link at the bottom of the window. 
  4. Set the Time range to All Time.
  5. Check-mark the Cookies and site data and Cached Images and Files boxes.
  6. Tap Delete Browsing data.
  7. Restart the web browser.
