AI-generated images should not be published as mark on University of Delaware websites, social media accounts or other University communications.

Generative AI tools may alter or inaccurately reproduce University trademarks, logos, signage and other protected visual elements. They may also introduce misspelled, distorted or nonsensical text and create imagery that does not meet UD’s standards for accuracy, quality and brand consistency. Images containing substantial embedded text may also present digital accessibility barriers because the information cannot be reliably read, resized or interpreted by assistive technology.

AI tools may be used to explore ideas or develop concepts. However, final materials representing the University must be created or reviewed by a college communicator and must comply with UD brand, editorial and accessibility standards.

Faculty, staff, centers and programs that need visual materials should contact their college or unit communications team before publishing. Communications staff can help develop an accessible, accurate and on-brand alternative that meets the intended need.

Please note that this guidance applies to marketing, promotional and public-facing materials created on behalf of the University of Delaware, including fliers, social media graphics, advertisements and program materials. It does not apply to instructional uses of generative AI when students are directed to use these tools as part of a course, assignment or academic exercise.
