Canvas + Kaltura Video Player Upgrade (V2 → V7) – Update Required for Custom Embeds

On April 24, 2026, the Kaltura video player used in Canvas will be upgraded from Version 2 (V2) to Version 7 (V7). This upgrade improves accessibility and supports compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.

Videos embedded in Canvas course sites using the built-in embed tool (see image below) through the Rich Content Editor will update automatically.

Action Required:

Videos embedded using custom embed codes—within Canvas or on other websites—must be updated manually. This includes videos shared through MyMedia/Capture Space as well as YouTube. Please follow the instructions below to find and replace your existing video embed codes.
 

MyMedia/Capture Space:

Retrieve New Embed Code

Go to capture.udel.edu and click My Media to login.
  1. Click on the video that you’d like to embed in your webpage.
  2. Click the Share tab.
  3. Click Embed.
  4. Copy the embed code for that video.

Paste the New Embed Code

  1. Navigate to the page on Canvas containing the video.
  2. Click to Edit.
  3. Click the “embed” icon (cloud icon).
  4. Paste the embed code and submit.

Note: Using the embed code will make the media public to the world and override all entitlements defined in MediaSpace. To avoid this issue, use the "Embed UD Capture Media" button (plug icon) in the Rich Content Editor. Review the YouTube section below for examples of when to use this button.

YouTube:

If the YouTube video is currently in your MyMedia:

Go to capture.udel.edu and click on “My Media” to login 

  1. Click on the video that you’d like to embed in your webpage
  2. Click the Share tab.
  3. Click Embed.
  4. Copy the embed code for that video.

If the YouTube video is not currently in your MyMedia:

  1. Copy the video link from YouTube.
  2. Go to your MyMedia.
  3. Click the Add New button.
  4. Select YouTube.
  5. Paste the YouTube link.
  6. Use the "Embed UD Capture Media" button (plug icon) in the Rich Content Editor.

Additional Websites:

  • Embedded media on websites other than Canvas must also be updated with the new code.
  • Please follow the instructions above to retrieve the new codes either from MyMedia/Capture Space or YouTube and replace them using your website editor.
