Microsoft Teams: Change Layout and Separate Chats and Teams

Body

Use these Microsoft Teams settings to make navigation faster—especially if you belong to many teams and chats. This article shows how to switch to list layout and how to separate (or combine) Chats and Teams in the app.

  • Switch the Teams app to List layout to view channels more quickly.
  • Choose Combined or Separate navigation to keep chats and teams together—or apart.

Change the default Teams Layout

In the new Microsoft Teams, the default view shows your teams in a grid. The grid makes it easy to see all teams at once, but you may need extra clicks to get to channels and posts. If you prefer faster navigation, switch the Teams app to List layout:

  1. Click the three dots next to your account icon, and choose Settings.

The three docs and settings selection are indicated.

  1. Click Chats and channels

Chats and Channels under Settings is shown

  1. Under Layout, select List.

The list view has been selected

  1. Select Teams on the toolbar to see your teams in list view.

View Chat and Teams Separately

If you belong to many chats and teams, you can choose whether Teams shows them in one combined list or on separate pages. The best option depends on how you like to navigate.

To switch between a combined list and separate pages:

  1. Click the three dots (...) next to your account icon, and choose Settings.

The three docs and settings selection are indicated.

  1. Click Chats and channels
  2. For Viewing chats, teams, and channels, select Separate.

"Combined" and "Separate" options are shown from the settings.

Note: The Combined option is available only when you are using the List layout.

If you don’t see the same options, confirm you’re using the new Teams app and that it is up to date.
