Dependency status is usually based on information from the FAFSA/ISIR and identifies whether a student is considered dependent or independent. This information is used in a wide variety of financial aid processes including determining aggregates/ the maximum amount a student can receive in lifetime federal direct loans. The most common classifications are "I" and "D".
